He must examine himself, and who he has become, under the brightest of lights and the keenest of eyes. As much as everybody around William regards him as a royal ass, we — his intimate confessors — know that he’s a hopeless romantic, hurt and confused, baffled that love can turn sour so quickly.

It came across like Ethan Hawke, author, has a lot of deep thoughts and decided to "hide" his wisdom in multiple side characters (who sounded similar), hoping we wouldn't notice how deep he is (hiding, not so well, behind the arras). Now, some 15 years after all that cosmic embarrassment, Hawke has published a novel titled “A Bright Ray of Darkness.I had to look up the basic remit of the Shakespearian play it focused on (Henry IV), as I have never been interested in this before. In 1988, Hawke was cast in a role in director Peter Weir's Dead Poets Society; the film's success was considered Hawke's breakthrough. Hawke's narrator is a young man in torment, disgusted with himself after the collapse of his marriage, still half-hoping for a reconciliation that would allow him to forgive himself and move on as he clumsily, and sometimes hilariously, tries to manage the wreckage of his personal life with whisky and sex. Realistic characters, and a depressing close-up of a self-centred actor sitting on the self-destruct button, and his journey of self-discovery while his life implodes.

One need only relate to the conflicting human impulses of wanting to hold on to love while needing to let it go.He is the author of Rules for a Knight , The Hottest State, Ash Wednesday and A Bright Ray of Darkness .
